Those games were common in s California card rooms and are not often seen in the post Moneymaker era. Once you have the basics teorla you must read this book.

I like his focus on general concepts and strategy, rather than smlansky hand strategies and specific techniques. Sklansky’s famous Fundamental Theorem of Poker is laid out in this book and explained in great detail. Naturally he discusses the various types of players - tight, loose, aggressive, passive - and how to respond to someone who bluffs too much, bluffs too little, plays tightly, plays loosely, and so on.

With that said, you should read this book multiple times and give it careful study if you’re looking to ever become anything other than an amateur player. From Beginner to Winner by Lou Krieger and play some low limit to get experience and then try Sklansky again.

If there’s something I know about the game that the other person doesn’t, and if he’s not willing to learn or can’t understand, then I take his money. Lots of sound helpful information throughout book and will benifit many playes at many levels.

The book is exactly what everyone says it is. Doyle Brunson’s Super System is considered an all-time classic, but you’ll get killed playing that way today.
